•Forgive me. I've been ill and away from my blog. Still shaky, but let's hope I'm back.
As part of this month's First Friday celebration, I'll be signing copies of my book, "Natural Histories: Stories from the Tennessee Valley" and the companion notecards at Woodward Books in the Old City on Friday, October 3, 5 p.m. to closing.
Woodward Books is located at 108 E. Jackson Avenue. They specialize in fine antiquarian and out of print books. If you love old books, this is the shop for you.
If you want to talk about collectible books, Tim and Jeannie will be happy to oblige!

Welcome back! I love old books, actually any kind of book. Among the antiquities--a great place to have a signing with all that tantalizing history in your book.

hope all is well in Texas. did you dodge Ike?
Did we dodge Ike? Not unless you call the eye coming right over our house dodging.
Like most of the homes in our area we had roof damage down to the wood. Which let in lots of water to the upstairs. Subsequently, Nathan's room, the connecting bathroom and the connecting bedroom wall are damaged. We are STILL waiting for the insurance adjuster to come. We also lost our back fence.
I have pics on my blog if you want to see. We stayed through the hurricane. The kids and I slept in the closet, what woke me up was the eerie silence at 4:00 a.m. as the eye passed over. We had no electricity for 4 days which is better than most. Some are just now getting theirs turned on. In the evenings we would sit in the car and watch movies on the DVD player.
All in all we faired fairly well. Just some annoying damage to be fixed. I know Nathan will be ready to move back into his room!

I watched the path of Ike on the Weather Channel. I thought it was headed your way.
Sorry about the damage and I'm glad it wasn't any worse. And thank goodness you do not live any closer to the coast.
I've seen several stories of people that lost everything, including several that were killed because they chose to stay put. Making such a life or death decision is hard to imagine.
Hope all returns to normal soon.
