like a rich jewel

"Like a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear;
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!"

Shakespeare's peeping-tomish Romeo was speaking of his fair Juliet as he watched her on her bedroom balcony, but he perhaps—could he not—have been waxing poetically over an indigo bunting?

As Juliet's glow stood out in the night, even from a great distance, the deep blue indigo stands out like a rich jewel. Perched high on its own balcony.

And you do not have to be a voyeur to see it, but it helps.

I love reading your posts. My husband and I have had a bit of a time around our place with birds lately. We've been noticing a hawk circling overhead for several days and it even perched on a dead limb in our yard. We have several bird feeders, and we knew it was looking for a meal. We have also been nervous about our little schnauzer becoming a potential victim. Yesterday evening was the last straw. We had a second brood of baby robins being raised under our porch awning, and the hawk swooped down and got both of them! The mommy robin had been in the back yard getting worms. When she realized what had happened to her babies, she sat in the oak tree and cried until dusk. So very sad. We removed all the bird feeders with the hope the hawk will move on.
